Roald Dahl’s advice to young writers

Roald Dahl's advice to writers was, "Enthrall your reader." Some of the things he suggested might enthrall the reader included  a hero who is a winner, secret information, strange inventions, eccentric people, horrible grown-ups (and sometimes vile children!), things that make you giggle, and ghastly villains who meet a grisly death.  Above all, he said you must have a first-class, fast-moving plot. Your challenge is to invent an outline for a Roald Dahl - style storybook, and to write a blurb for the back cover of the book.  Can you write it using five really good sentences?  Or (even harder), can you use exactly one hundred words? Can't wait to read your mind-whangling, zipperlicious plots!

Mrs. Chambers’ story starter

A huge mountain range stretched ahead, peak after snowy peak reaching up into a glowering sky.  Deep, dark valleys plunged between the mountains, the rushing rivers that had carved them so far down that they could be heard (faintly) but not seen.  A winding trail snaked upwards, perched precariously half-way between the valley floor and the mountain summits: this treacherous pass was the only way through to the more welcoming lands beyond. Can you carry on the next paragraph either describing the scene or adding a character for further interest?....
