What should my child wear to school?
We have a schoolwear policy that ensures the children wear clothing that is suitable for a day at school, while offering a degree of flexibility. Clothes should be plain, simple and hard-wearing without patterns or logos (except the school badge). Anything purchased from the schoolwear department of a childrenʼs shop or department store should be suitable. The following colours are acceptable:
• Trousers, shorts or skirt: navy blue or grey.
• Shirt, polo-shirt: pale blue or white.
• Jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan: navy.
In the summer term, girls may wear a blue and white checked or striped dress. All items should be clearly labelled with your childʼs name.

Is any uniform available at Whitchurch Primary School?
School uniform can be purchased online from www.wovina.com by following these steps: 1. Select “On-Line Shop” 2. From the “Browse Categories” select “School Uniform with Logo” 3. Click on the link “Whitchurch School”

What shoes do you recommend?
Children should wear a pair of ʻproperʼ school shoes that have been measured to fit. For outdoor PE lessons children need a pair of trainers. Children do indoor PE lessons in bare feet.

What about outer clothing?
The children should always have a waterproof coat at school as we like them to be able to go outdoors unless the weather conditions make this impossible. A kagool is ideal as this can be worn over a fleece in the winter and by itself at other times of the year. They are also less bulky on the peg. When it is cold, do make sure the children have a hat and gloves as well. Scarves are not needed as they easily get hooked up on things and get in the way when the children are playing. Umbrellas should not be brought to school. In summertime, the children need a cotton sun hat. Please be sure they put on a high factor sunscreen before they leave home as we cannot apply it. We also like the children to have a named, clear water bottle at school throughout the year. This must contain only water.

What clothes does my child need for PE?
Your child will need a white T-shirt and navy sports shorts, plus a navy tracksuit for outdoor lessons in colder weather(without a hood). PE kit should be kept in a drawstring bag on your childʼs peg at all times. Please be sure that it is washed at the end of each term as a minimum. A royal blue drawstring bag with the school logo can be purchased through the school from the Wovina website. Please do not send PE kits to school in plastic bags.

Does my child need a school bag?
The school book bag is ideal for carrying things. Rucksacks are not encouraged because they are too bulky. A Whitchurch Primary School book bag is recommended and can also be purchased online.

Will my child need to bring anything else to school?
Children in Class 1 and 2 will need different clothes for Forest School visits. Details will be given at the time of the visits. Children in Class 3 go swimming and need to bring costumes and a swimming hat. Goggles may be worn if your child is sensitive to chlorine, but they are not recommended as they reduce visibility. Children must be able to adjust them by themselves.

What should I do if some of my childʼs clothing gets lost at school?
Please let the class teacher know as soon as possible if something has been lost. If school wear is named it usually finds its way back to its owner. Unnamed school wear wastes a lot of time for us all.
