School Uniform

We have a school uniform policy that ensures the children wear clothing that is suitable for a day at school, while offering a degree of flexibility.

Items of uniform purchased from the schoolwear department of a children’s shop, supermarket or department store should be suitable as long as it follows our guidelines. In addition, certain items bearing our school logo can be purchased from our online suppliers Wovina by visiting their online shop as follows:

  • Select Schoolwear
  • From the “Browse Categories” select “Whitchurch School”
  • Choose and buy your desired items

What should my child wear to school?

Anything purchased from the schoolwear department of a children’s shop or department store should be suitable.

The following colours are acceptable:
Trousers, shorts or skirt: navy blue or grey.
Shirt, polo-shirt: pale blue or white. Long or short sleeved
Jumper, sweatshirt, cardigan or tank top : navy blue.
Socks and tights: white, navy, black or grey colours.

In the summer term, children may wear a blue and white checked or striped dress.

All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

The children should always have a waterproof coat at school as we like them to be able to go outdoors unless the weather conditions make this impossible. A cagoule is ideal as this can be worn over a fleece in the winter and by itself at other times of the year. They are also less bulky on the cloakroom peg.

When it is cold, do make sure your child has a hat and gloves as well. Scarves should not be worn to school as they easily get hooked up on things and get in the way when the children are playing. Umbrellas should not be brought to school either.

Children may wear thermal under garments under school uniform when it is cold, but not instead of a school jumper or school trousers. If these thermal items are likely to be visible then they should be in school uniform colours.

In summertime, the children need a cotton sun hat. Children may bring their own labelled bottle of sun cream which they will be able to reapply at lunch time.  School logo hats with neck protection can be bought from the online shop.

Pupils with long hair should keep it tied back off the face. Hair ties should be plain and simple and should not distract the child or those around them from their learning.

What shoes do you recommend?
All of the children in school will take part in the Daily Mile, an initiative that sees children run or jog for 15 minutes every day, during the school day, to support our efforts to get the children outside as much as possible as well as the obvious benefits from daily exercise.

For this reason, we ask that children wear a pair of plain black outdoor shoes/trainers that can be used for running around outside. Please see the attached school shoes guidance document for advice on which type of footwear would be suitable. These black outdoor shoes/trainers should be worn every day EXCEPT on the day the children wear their PE trainers to school as part of their PE schoolwear (see below).

What clothes does my child need for PE?
Each week we will ask children to come to school dressed in ‘PE kit’ on their set PE lesson day, as well as on any days in which they are taking part in an after school sports activity club. This will be instead of their normal uniform.

This PE kit will consist of:
* Royal blue polo shirt or t-shirt – we recommend a polyester material rather than cotton as cotton items can
become uncomfortable when wet
* Navy blue shorts/skorts
* Plain or minimally branded navy blue tracksuit TOP – polyester material recommended as above
* Plain or minimally branded navy blue tracksuit BOTTOMS – polyester material recommended as above

In the winter months children may wear thermal under garments under PE kit when it is cold or attending a sports tournament outdoors.  If these thermal items are likely to be visible then they should be in school uniform colours.

PE trainers (a separate pair specifically for PE days, NOT the school shoe/trainers, as the PE trainers are more likely to get muddy during lessons given that some lessons take place on the village green). NO PLIMSOLLS

Our school uniform supplier, Wovina.com, have two PE items available which bear our school logo (t-shirt and tracksuit top). However, if you wish to buy something similar elsewhere that is fine.

On their PE kit days, children can choose to wear all or some of their PE kit depending on the weather. However, we would advise that your child wears all of the items to school and removes them if they become too hot during
the day.

A navy blue drawstring bag with the school logo can be purchased from the Wovina website. Please do not send
PE kits to school in plastic bags.

We also like the children to have a named, clear water bottle at school throughout the year. This must contain only water.
