Whitchurch Primary School provides a diverse, balanced and relevant approach to the use of technology. Children are encouraged to maximise the benefits and opportunities that technology has to offer. We ensure that children learn in an environment where security measures are balanced appropriately with the need to learn effectively. Here at Whitchurch, we aim to equip children with the skills and knowledge to use technology appropriately and responsibly. We teach children how to recognise the risks associated with technology and how to deal with them, both within and outside the school environment.
Intent
Online Safety is a crucial part of ensuring that the children are kept safe at Whitchurch Primary school. This is achieved by implementing robust security measures with filtering in place provided by a company who is an expert in their field. All material is monitored for suitability to ensure safeguarding of all pupils remains our top priority. The email system that we currently use is a closed system, children can only send and receive messages within the Whitchurch primary domain.
We aim to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge to use technology appropriately and responsibly. We teach children how to recognise the risks associated with technology and how to deal with them, both within and outside the school environment.

Impact
We measure our impact in the following ways –
- Talking to the children about what they have learned in open discussion.
- Evidence based work that they have produced, ie posters, bookmarks, quizzes.
- Parental feedback
- Security and filtering reports produced weekly
We aim to equip our pupils with the life skills they need to enable them to move forward, embracing new technology in a socially responsible and mature way and feel secure in the knowledge that they have been rigorously taught the importance of Internet Safety.

Whitchurch Online Safety Policy
The Internet The purpose of Internet use in school is to raise educational standards, to promote pupil achievement, to support the professional work of staff and to enhance the school’s management functions. The Internet use is part of the statutory curriculum and a necessary tool for learning. Internet access is an entitlement for children who show a responsible and mature approach to it’s use. The Internet is a part of everyday life for education, business and social interaction. The school has a duty to provide children with quality Internet access as part of their learning experience. Our children use the Internet widely outside school and need to learn how to evaluate Internet information and to take care of their own safety and security.
